Dori’s Discovery Days

A weekend of Love, Laughter and Learning for Children who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing and their Families

Rocky Mountain Village, Easter Seals Camp, Empire, CO

"Dori’s Discovery Days" is an annual September program for children ages 7 to 11 years who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (campers), their parents and siblings. Campers and their siblings practice social and communication skills in a typical childhood camp environment while their parents participate in a variety of educational workshops, discussions, and fun-filled activities. The goal of “Dori’s Discovery Days” is to strengthen children’s communication skills and parent education and advocacy. Together, families learn, laugh, and build new skills and friendships.

Campers develop their social and communication skills during a variety of activities such as hiking, fishing, zipline, crafts and games.

Parents share in open discussions that focus on what hearing loss means to them and their families, how to approach advocacy, and how to have conversations with their child about safety and personal responsibility.

Siblings participate in similar camp activities with their brother or sister and other children their age, as well as interact with siblings of other campers.
